A Home Health Aid is a skilled professional that will work with a doctor or discharge planner to develop a plan. Whether leaving a hospital or nursing facility, after an illness, accident or other medical event, that will allow the patient to go back to the comfort of their home.
Home Health Aides work closely with, and are supervised by, other health care professionals such as Doctors, Registered Nurses or Social Workers. This team will work together to develop a plan for the client. The Home Health Aide is responsible for the routine, non-medical, care giving part of this plan. They can also recognize signs and symptoms and will report them immediately to the supervisor. It is important to note that they may not administer medication.
The benefits of having a Home Health Aide are numerous. The main benefit is allowing the client to be safe and well cared for in their own home when they are in need of assistance.
